Soccer Leagues

There are thousands of different soccer leagues around the world. Most of them amateur leagues and a few of them professional. When we think about soccer leagues we usually think about the big leagues such as premier league, La Liga and the Italian Serie A. We might also think about the different national first and second divisions. What we often forget is that there are a lot of leagues in ever single European cities for different adult teams not to mention little leagues for children of different ages. Taking these into consideration on a global basis it is not unlikely that there are over a million different leagues. Premier League

Premier league is the primary league in Great Britain and is home to some of the worlds most famous teams such as Manchester united, Chelsea and Arsenal. Premier league is home to many of the greatest players in the world and the games are watched by many across the world. A total of 20 teams compete in Premier league. Premier League is a corporation in which the 20 member clubs act as shareholders. Premier league was formed 20 February 1992.


Bundesliga is the premier league of any sport in Germany or Austria. The term simply means Federal league. The terms do however most often refer to the primary soccer league when used outside of Germany and Austria. The soccer Bundesliga was formed in 1963 with a women version formed 1990. 18 teams play in the league at any given time and a total of 51 teams have played in the league. The Bundesliga has the highest audience numbers of all the worlds soccer league with an average of 45,134 fans showing up at each game for the 2011/2012 season.

Serie A

Serie A is the primary soccer league in Italy. The second league was formerly known as Series B but is now due to a sponsorship deal known as Bwin league. The series was first formed for the 1929-30 season. There are currently 20 teams playing in Serie A. Serie A is know for good soccer and exciting games. It is however also known for cheating and has been tarnished by several corruption scandals in which teams have been removed from the division or lost their titles.

La Liga

La liga (Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) ) is the premier league in Spain and is home to to team such as Barcelona and Real Madrid. Many would argue that this is the best league in the world. The league is home to 20 teams. 59 teams have competed in La Liga over the years but only 9 of those have ever won the title. La liga was founded in 1929.
