Lionel Andrés Messi

Lionel Andrés Messi (Spanish pronunciation: [ljoˈnel anˈdɾes ˈmesi] is an Argentinian soccer player born 24 June 1987 in Rosario, Santa Fe Province, Argentina. His father Jorge Horácio Messi was a steel worker, and his mother, Celia María Cuccittini, was a part-time cleaner Messi is by many considered the best player in the world and he is also one of the best paid players in the world. He is captain of the Argentina national team and plays for FC Barcelona in La Liga. Sportspro has rated Lionel Messi as the 3rd most marketable athlete in the world.

Messi has had a fantastic career and has won the FIFA Ballon d’Or 3 years in a row (2009,10 and 11) and he has also won a number of other individual titles such as FIFA 2009 World Player of the Year and 2010–11 UEFA Best Player in Europe. Many compare Messi with Diego Maradona since they both have a similar style of play and both have small statures. He is 1.69 m (5 ft 7 in). Diego Maradona himself namned Messi his “Successor”. During the 2011–12 season he scored 73 goals giving him the record for most goals in a single season. During that season he made 50 goals in La Liga giving him the goal record in a singel La Liga season. He is the all-time top scorer in Barcelona.

Messi has won Champions League 3 times and La Liga 5 times with Barcelona. He recently made UEFA Champions League history by becoming the first player to score 5 times in the same game when Barcelona beat Bayer Leverkusen with 7-1.

Messi Has played his entire sernior Career in Barcelona. At the tender age of age 25 (2012) we can expect to see a lot more from this young player.
